Submission Help for Authors Without a Publicist

Are you new to publishing, or are you publicizing a book without a publicist? We want to hear from you! Zona Motel is dedicated to nurturing emerging talent.

If you want your book reviewed…

Contact one of our Reviews Editors.

In your email, include the following:

  • Info about your book. This can be a short description (2-3 sentences), the book copy, pre-publication blurbs, and/or a link to the publishing page. Also include the publisher (we generally don’t accept self-published works), publication date, and genre. If an excerpt, review, or bit of press exists online, provide a link.

  • Explain who you are. This is typically done through an author bio and links to previously published work. If you don’t yet have an author bio or any previously published work, tell us a bit about yourself: Where are you from? How do you spend your time? Who are your favorite authors? Either way, keep this portion short— no more than a few sentences.

  • Briefly (1-3 sentences) explain how your book fits in with our manifesto.

  • If applicable, drop a name. Do you know any of our editors or contributors?

  • Ask if the editor wants a physical or digital galley.

If you want to write for us…

Contact the appropriate editor, or one of our editors-in-chief.

We are currently at capacity for our Editor roles. We are still looking for Contributing Editors in the Dispatches category (events coverage), and individual pieces in all categories.

In your email, include the following:

  • Explain what you want to do. First, make sure to read our submission guidelines and manifesto. Then, provide a short description (1-3 sentences) of what you intend to write. If you see a piece online that is similar to what you want to do, include a link.
