i agree joker 2 best of the two. both masterpieces. always said so. no explanation needed. the only defense needed is why everyone is so fickle like they’re gothamites
I'll be damned. The colorful umbrellas. What do you know. I think you're right. That's pretty funny. I think I saw that movie when I was in my teens or slightly later. Isn't it kind of an "art film" for the middlebrow; sentimental? I really can't remember but that's the impression, quite possibly mistaken, I have. Curiouser and curiouser... :-)
not sure! it was a long time ago for me too. what i remember most clearly is, wow, this auto mechanic just broke out in song, and then being quite enchanted in general
Nice. I'm going to track down that movie streaming if I can. I wonder how ironical the allusion is supposed to be. I'd love it if the Cherbourg simply had that charm you're talking about... It's true that a striking thing about the singing in the Joker is that it really is about the situation the characters are in and it has that tender and exhilarating and funny feel, like as if your auto mechanic broke into song about the carburetor. Wait—I just fired up the Demy flick on Criterion, and you're absolutely right—the opening credit sequence is a shot of umbrellas each in a brilliant monotone drifting across the screen, seen from 30 feet above, just as in Joker. Also after watching a minute of it, I realize my first comment/take on it may be unfair. The movie is perhaps not so easily dismissed? Anyway, thanks!
I did not expect to get persuaded to watch this movie, but Richard did it.
it is great!! it felt confrontational to me in a really fun way.
Loved this.

Very good!
Umbrellas of Cherbourg, probably?
